Orthostatic Hypotension

Orthostatic Hypotension

Orthostatic hypotension is defined as a sustained drop in systolic blood pressure of 20 mmHg or more on standing. A consistent finding in the research is that the magnitude of the blood pressure drop does not reliably predict how symptomatic a patient will be — many patients with severe hypotension feel nothing, while others are profoundly symptomatic with modest drops. This disconnect between measurement and experience has significant implications for diagnosis and monitoring.
